How does movement influence the way we think, feel and live?

The exhibition Peter Opsvik – Moved by Movement explores how design, art and music come together through the theme of movement. Using furniture, artworks, sound, film and interactive installations, it presents how Peter Opsvik (1939–2024) challenged established ideas about how we sit and move. Movement is not seen as a break from sitting, but as a necessary condition for sitting well.

Opsvik is known for design classics such as Tripp Trapp®, Variable™, Credo® and Capisco®. The exhibition also presents his work as a musician and artist, showing how these aspects are connected by the same curiosity about rhythm, movement and human expression.

Explore and take an active role

Visitors are encouraged to take an active role. Several of the installations can be explored and tried out.

The exhibition also highlights the collaboration between Peter Opsvik and the furniture manufacturer HÅG. More than six million Opsvik-designed chairs have been produced in Røros and are in use around the world.

The exhibition is presented in Smelthytta at Rørosmuseet until 23 August 2026.
