The archive of Røros Copper Works 1644-1977

The Røros Copper Works archive provides knowledge about the economic, technical, and social history of the works.

  • 1/1

It tells us about the people who built the mining town, the interaction between the works and the region, and gives insight into the trade network the copper works were part of. The archive is therefore of local, regional, and national significance. The works archive is an important part of the Røros Museum's collections and is the main source for a large part of the museum's activities. The mining exhibition you see here in Smelthytta, Røros Museum is based on the rich archive.

The Copper Works archive is part of Norway's documentary heritage, which is the Norwegian section of the UNESCO Memory of the World program. The program was established in 1992 as one of several initiatives to highlight and preserve cultural heritage.
