The Copper Works

The Copper Works exhibition at Røros Museum Smelthytta tells the story of mining operations at Røros Copper Works, with emphasis on the period 1650 through the 1800s.

  • Rob Veldhuis

The Copper Works exhibition, which is comprised of detailed, miniature scale models, provides insight into the resource requirements of Røros Copper Works, changing methods of extracting ore, pumping water and transportation in the mines, smelting and smelting processes and how various challenges of mining were met. These models give an excellent impression of the way in which the mining operations were carried out. The models themselves are fascinating and give us a better understanding of the history of the operation.

The exhibition also shows how Røros Copper Works was organised, its structure, finances and the consumption of materials and resources.
